Gallery: Oregon My Oregon

Enjoy the newest gallery exhibit Oregon, My Oregon at the Sherwood Center for the Arts. This show features beautiful Oregon-inspired landscapes, flora and scenery by local visual artist D.K. Boljat. This show is currently on display, and can be viewed in-person starting Monday, March 1st through May 3rd. 

New Gallery Hours: Monday- Friday between 9am - 1pm.  **No appointment necessary**

About the Artist: 

Darla Boljat

In 2004, Darla Boljat began painting, after her curiosity was sparked by a friend who was an artist, demonstrating how she created art. Darla painted with her artist friend weekly for a few months and finished a landscape she was ok with. The artist mentor suggested she add a barn. Not knowing how to create buildings at the time. Darla replied “I don’t do barns,” but she attempted and ultimately added a barn anyway. 

The barn painting was so lovely that Darla gave the painting to her maternal grandmother who loved old barns and was ill. Her family proudly hung the painting over Grandma’s bed in hospice, sharing the joy in the painting with family who visited her. All were surprised that Darla had painted it.

And then something happened. Months later, while listening to the eulogy for her dear grandmother, Darla learned that her grandmother had always wanted to paint but did not pursue that dream, not knowing where to begin. That day, Darla Boljat resolved to be an artist. In 2005, she sold her first painting. Her first client was a medical doctor from the West Coast. As her business grew, Darla incorporated her company D. K. Boljat Inc. in Oregon.  

As she increased her artistic knowledge, Darla took the joyful task of teaching students at Sip & Paint events, private lessons, as the Artist in Residence at local schools and at the Sherwood Center for the Arts. She now teaches acrylic painting classes online at www.dkboljat.com. 

Ms. Boljat paints in acrylics, oils and using a technique she has developed painting with both acrylic and oil paint. Seeking to capture the feeling of peace and relaxation she experiences when she is in nature. When painting she highlights the beauty of each landscape and is not finished with the piece until she feels the same awe and peace she felt while on location.  Ms. Boljat paints subjects which grace with light our indoor environments, transforming the place they are displayed into a calming retreat from the stress of our day-to-day life. 

Darla is passionate about painting, as well as her home state Oregon. Born in Portland, Darla has accomplished her life goal and traveled all over Oregon painting the beauty and tranquility of the most popular sites, culminating in this show.
