Ballroom Meets Broadway Dance Camp | 8- 11 years
Dive into a summer dance series where the lights of Broadway mix with characteristics of ballroom dancing. You'll unpack weeks of technique, footwork, partnering sequences, and choreography in this energetic and elegant unique blend of theatrical music and stylish dancing. Benefits of this cross training camp can include: improved posture, confidence, rhythm, music interpretation, acting, and artistic expression. This fun camp environment will be catered to all skill levels, encouraging students of all levels of dance and theatre experience or none to attend! Partners not necessary for attendance but encouraged! Show off your new skills to friends and family at the end of the series during the art center's mini production.

Each age group will learn the basics of traditional ballroom dances that will be decided by the instructors which range from swing, cha cha, samba, merengue, rumba, waltz, tango, foxtrot, charleston, etc...Class will include technique, basic foot positions, partner work, choreography and styling. Many dance fundamentals will be practiced individually and then linked with a partner in a group of sequences.
The beginning of class will start with a warm up catered to the particular style being used in the class that day. Each age group will be taught one maybe two styles that will be arranged into a routine that will be performed at the end of the summer series. If a students wishes to participate in the camp but does not want to be included in the performance please check the box under no performance participation. While we challenge and encourage each student to participate, we understand that there are reasons the individual may choose to not take part in the performance.
Costumes will consist of simple attire that parents & students can purchase on their own and will be announced the day of the first class. Dance Shoes are required to participate regardless of performance participation and can be easily purchased at a reasonable price on amazon. Examples can be given by the instructors. No higher than 2" for ladies and only recommended that high for older students 12+ These shoes are for safety and to create a unity between the students. Shoes should be purchased before the first camp day and brought to class. Students will be responsible for practice attire that allows them to move comfortably around the floor. Please refer to the guided attire dress code. Long hair must be in a ponytail or bun for practice. Please make sure to arrive early on the first day for check in.
